Mushrooms are a dirty vegetable that grow in the ground that are packed with power when you eat them. There are over 1000 kinds of mushrooms and most often at the store you will find common mushrooms.

They are rich in several B vitamins such as riboflavin (B2) which is good for red blood cells, folate (B9) that helps convert carbs into energy, thiamine (B1) also helps break down carbs, pantothenic acid (B5) which is necessary for making blood cells, and it helps you convert food that you eat into energy, and niacin (B3) which is good for the digestive system and healthy skin. Minerals such as selenium, potassium, copper, iron, and phosphorus, are available in mushrooms also.

Mushrooms have been linked to boosting your immune system because they are high in antioxidants. They are also considered part of the Mind Diet in that they can cutdown some cognitive decline risk.

Mushrooms are Eaten Raw or Cooked

The most popular way to cook them is: Heat olive oil and butter in a large saucepan over a medium heat. Cook and stir cleaned mushrooms, garlic, cooking wine, teriyaki sauce, garlic salt, and black pepper in the hot oil and butter until mushrooms are lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low and simmer until mushrooms are tender, 5 to 8 more minutes.

People bake, boil, grill, slow cook, or microwave them. Or they use them raw for snacks or veggie trays. Either way that you cook them or don’t, using them in your menu is beneficial to your health and fitness and they taste great.

Try a Portobello Mushroom burger! The mushroom is rich and meaty and often used in this way. This is a popular no meat version of a burger. Another way is to hollow out the inside and use the portobello as a bun. How about that?
